The English for Academic
Purposes course is designed for undergraduate and graduate students who
wish to improve their English language skills so that they can
effectively participate in an academic environment.
3iMobile teaches this course
using a convenient and effective format that has been fine-tuned over
the years. The student works with a course book, accesses
web-based lesson materials, and has private individualized one-on-one
lessons with an English Language Instructor over the telephone.
The Language skills that are addressed include: listening, speaking,
vocabulary, grammar, reading and writing.
The lessons in this course
provide the students with practice in effective speaking skills. They
are taught how to lead and participate in discussions as well as how to
state a point of view and respond to opposing viewpoints. In the
process, students increase their vocabulary and speaking fluency.
To improve writing skills, the
instructor will assign writing assignments to the student. The
focus will be on the general characteristics of academic writing as well
as typical patterns in academic prose.
The instructor also helps the
student improve their reading strategies. They give them advice on how
to increase reading speed, do critical analysis and predict and evaluate
points of views while reading text.
With
the 3iMobile approach, the student doesn't have to travel anywhere to
attend the classes. The Instructor will call the student and
conduct the lesson over the telephone.
3iMobile
offers a one-month refresher course, an intensive one-month course and a
regular 3-month course. All one-on-one lessons with the instructor
are half an hour in duration.
